چکیده
mediciNe & HeAltH/RHode islANd Chlamydia traChomatis (Ct) And Neisseria gonorrhoeae (NG) are the two most common reportable sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in the United States. Adolescent girls (15 to19 years of age) and young women (20 to 24 years of age) are at highest risk for these infections. This likely reflects a combination of factors, including biological differences that place females at greater risk for STIs than males, as well as higher screening rates among young women. Similarly, men who have sex with men (MSM) are at increased risk for STIs including chlamydia and gonorrhea due to higher rates of unsafe sexual behaviors. Clinicians should be aware of current screening recommendations and diagnostic methods for detection of gonorrhea and chlamydia in genital as well as extra-genital sites to address this prevailing epidemic, particularly among younger women and MSM.

What is needed to guide testing for anorectal and pharyngeal Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae in women and men? Evidence and opinion.
BACKGROUND Anorectal and pharyngeal infections with Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) and Neisseria gonorrheae (NG) are commonly observed in men who have sex with men (MSM). There is increasing evidence that such infections at extra-genital sites are also common in women. In both sexes, these infections are largely overlooked as they are not routinely tested for in regular care. Testing based on sexua...

Diagnosing gonorrhoea from extra-genital as well as genital sites is important in managing this sexually transmitted disease. In this study we evaluated a screening procedure for Neisseria gonorrhoeae (GC) from all sample sites in a low-prevalence setting. A total of 69,252 specimens submitted for Chlamydia trachomatis testing were also examined for GC on the BD Viper™ platform using the BD Pro...

Screening for extra-genital Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae infections is a crucial component for sexually transmitted diseases management, even if at present days no commercial methods have been approved for use on pharyngeal and rectal specimens by the US FDA or have received the conformity CE marking. Here we report the analytical sensitivities of the Versant CT/GC 1.0 assay ...

OBJECTIVES To evaluate the concordance between clinic-collected extra-genital specimens and self-collected mailed-in extra-genital specimens among participants seeking sexually transmitted infection testing at a free clinic in Hollywood, CA. METHODS A convenience sample of 210 men who have sex with men were enrolled between February 29, 2016 and December 21, 2016 and received mail-in testing ...
متن کاملPrevalence of Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae in Chilean asymptomatic adolescent males determined by urine sample.
Introduction Genital Chlamydia trachomatis infection is a sexually transmitted disease of special relevance because of its high frequency and severe complications. Sexually active adolescents are among the highest risk groups for this STD. As the infection is usually asymptomatic, it is necessary to apply screening methods to determine its real prevalence. The enzyme immunoassay (EIA) in first ...
